    An extraordinary place .... keep your wits about you and you will have a whole lot of fun . Of course it's best if no-one is there but you .... take your rubbish home

    Fantastic spot. Great hiking nice undercover area with a fire at each end. Lots of small BBQ fire areas around, good parking. Great place

    The Melville Caves picnic area has a large covered area, perfect for larger groups or bad weather, and picnic tables for smaller groups.

    Toilets are available close by, but I don't know much else about the facilities - I use the picnic area as my starting point for a number of hikes.

    The shortest hike is about 16 minutes from the picnic area, up to Melville Cave, then back down, but it gains elevation fast and can be tough on folk with a low fitness level.

    The longer hiking tracks are much easier on the legs and lungs, but they all take about 3 hours to complete.

    All tracks are marked well; sometimes by the mere presence of manmade steps and barriers, other times by bright orange arrows attached directly to the rocks, or to posts in the ground.

    I've managed to spot plenty of local wildlife on my hikes - kangaroos tend to hang out near the picnic area, and along the tracks I've seen wallabies, echidnas, wombats, eagles, blue tongue lizards, and a black cat that has adopted the area as his home.

    Breathe taking scenes if you don't mind a bit of a hike. Pictures will never do it justice.
